  • Driven by justice and guided by a fierce commitment to his clients, Devin Maxwell is a litigation lawyer with a passion for advocacy—especially for survivors of abuse and underrepresented communities. He brings both legal precision and deep empathy to every case.

Devin completed his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science at Dalhousie University in 1998, followed by his LL.B., also from Dalhousie, in 2001. He was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2002. Devin articled at a major Nova Scotia firm, where he later practised as an associate for six years before transitioning to a smaller firm setting, ultimately joining Conrad Dillon Robinson to continue his litigation work.

Devin maintains a broad litigation practice that includes personal injury, insurance disputes, judicial and administrative review, commercial conflicts, Aboriginal and human rights law, and institutional abuse claims. He has experience in securing compensation for survivors of physical and sexual abuse, including those harmed in youth facilities, religious institutions, and government settings. Recently, he has also begun advocating for young athletes.

Devin has appeared before all levels of court in Nova Scotia and the Federal Court of Canada. He is known for his relentless advocacy, strong written and oral advocacy skills, and his ability to handle emotionally difficult matters with care and strength.

Clients appreciate Devin’s commitment to making justice more accessible and helping them maneuver the twists and turns associated with the legal system. Whether pursuing accountability or defending rights, Devin has an unwavering dedication to justice and is steadfast in securing outcomes that matter.

Outside of his legal work, Devin is deeply engaged in his community. He has served on various boards and committees, including the NSBS Race Relations Committee and the executive of CBA Nova Scotia. He was a Member at Large with the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (NS), and a past executive with Rugby Nova Scotia and Skills Nova Scotia. He is also a former president of both the Halifax Tars Rugby Football Club and The Resolutes Amateur Athletic Club.

Devin lives in Halifax with his partner, Sandi, and puppy, Sheila. Their home boasts a legendary home Tiki Bar and what may be Nova Scotia’s largest rum collection. He remains very active and currently plays rugby with the Halifax Tars and baseball with the Nova Scotia Monarchs. Off the field, Devin is a die-hard sports fan who still holds out hope for the return of the Montreal Expos. In their absence, he rides the highs and lows of the Montréal Canadiens, Brisbane Broncos, and Queensland Reds.
